The LDAWE office will be closed for the holidays beginning on Friday, December 19, 2014 and will reopen on Monday, January 5, 2015. Don't forget that during the months of November and December you can text LDAWE to 20222 to make a donation to LDAWE in the amount of $5, $10, $20, or $25. A charitable donation receipt can be issued for your donation.
The University of Windsor is looking for parents and teachers of children with ADHD in grades JK-8 who want to learn about how to better cope with daily stress. Program participants will learn how to use mindfulness training to help with challenges that arise from parenting/teaching. Click here for the program flyer.

Tea with Santa & Christmas Bake Sale
LDAWE is hosting our 3rd annual Tea with Santa & Christmas Bake Sale on Sunday, December 7, 2014 from 1:30pm-3:30pm. Hot beverages (tea, coffee, and hot chocolate) and snacks will be served. There will also be games and door prizes plus the special visit from Santa! For more details click here.

Don't DIS my ABILITY!
October is Learning Disabilities Awareness Month. The theme this year is Don't DIS my ABILITY! Imagine the difference it could make if we focused on the strengths of people with learning disabilities instead of their weaknesses. Please help increase awareness about learning disabilities on your social media feeds by using the hashtags #LDMonth and #LD during the month of October.

Lights, Camera, Action! Week in Essex
The second week of our Summer Enrichment Camp in Essex had a drama theme. Activities during the week included creating movie trailers and commercials. Check out the videos on our new YouTube Channel, and make sure to leave a comment to give our film makers and actors some feedback.
LDAO Presents: 1st Annual Educators' Institute
All Ontario educators and professional support staff are encouraged to attend. As a delegate attending the Educators’ Institute, you will be provided with new perspectives and knowledge in the field of LDs, based on current research, and practical information on effective assessment and instructional strategies, including technology. This summer, LDAWE is offering our Summer Enrichment Camp for children with LD/ADHD who will be entering grades 3-6 in the fall. LDAWE is also offering our SOAR Transition planning program for youth who will be entering high school in the fall. Space is limited, and is filling up fast. How Do You READ?-a-thon
LDAWE is hosting its first read-a-thon this summer. All ages are invited, regardless of reading ability. There will be guest speakers, door prizes, and snacks. Roy Cooper Memorial Scholarship
LDAO offers a $1000 scholarship award in memory of Roy Cooper. This scholarship recognizes an Ontario high school student with documented learning disabilities who will be attending a post-secondary institution during the 2014-2015 academic year. The student must be pursuing a bachelor of engineering or a bachelor of science in a physical sciences discipline (does not include social sciences or technology). Reid Family Scholarship Recipients Announced
LDAWE is excited to announce this year's recipients of the Reid Family Scholarship. Drew Tarnowski has received a $500 scholarship to attend St. Clair College this fall. Bridget Taylor has received a $500 scholarship to attend the University of Windsor this fall. Best of luck in your studies!
Annual Spring Fundraising Dinner

Shire Canada ADHD Scholarship Program
The Shire Canada ADHD Scholarship Program supports people diagnosed with ADHD who are pursuing higher education. The scholarship is for $1500 and one year of ADHD coaching services. The application deadline is April 15, 2014. Go to: www.shireADHDscholarship.com to apply.

LDAO Launches LD@School and TA@L'école
This project is funded by the Ministry of Education, and is a website that offers free resources for educators who work with students with learning disabilities. There is an English version of the website (www.LDatSchool.ca) and a French version of the website (www.TAaLecole.ca).
