BEATS (Building Effective Adaptive Technology Skills) Program

Eligibility Criteria: Youth 10-15 years of age with a diagnosed learning disability or ADHD who are or will be using adaptive technology at school

Description: Participants will increase their keyboarding skills, understand how to use the Internet and software programs or apps to assist with school work completion, understand how to use and apply adaptive technology (text-to-voice, voice-to-text, word prediction, and mind mapping) in the classroom, and understand how to avoid cyber bullying. This interactive program will help develop skills through games, activities, and projects. Participants will be able to use a laptop, iPad, or Chromebook (based on what they have or will be assigned by their school).

Program Fee: $150 for non-LDA members or $100 for LDA members per 7-week session.  Subsidies may be available.

Brainology Camp

Eligibility Criteria: Youth 11-14 years of age with a diagnosed learning disability or ADHD

Description: Brainology is an interactive program that incorporates online activities and videos to assist youth in understanding the brain and how it works. The participants will be shown how to apply this knowledge in the classroom and develop strategies for tackling learning challenges.

Program Fee: $175 for non-LDA members or $125 for LDA members per 7-week session. Subsidies may be available.

SOAR (Some Assembly Required) Transition Planning Summer Program

Eligibility Criteria: Youth entering grades 6-9 with a diagnosed learning disability or ADHD

Description: Topics discussed include: L's and D's (understanding your learning disability), tools for success (strategies, support, and accommodation), and making choices for the future (keys to success and goal setting). Each participant will get their own workbooks to record their work.  Many of the concepts taught will be reinforced with games and hands-on activities, with incentives being provided to promote participation.

Program Fee: $175 for non-LDA members or $125 for LDA members per 4-week session (2 sessions per week). Subsidies may be available.

Youth Recreation Program

Eligibility Criteria: Youth 13 – 18 years of age with a diagnosed learning disability or ADHD

Description: This group meets once to twice per month for community recreation activities. The purpose of this program is to allow youth to practice their social skills in an understanding environment and to become more active within their own community. Examples of activities include laser tag, mini-golf, swimming, bowling, seeing a movie, etc…

Program Fee: $20.00 per 3-month session.
